Alternate Energy, Solar Electric

What is Alternative Energy? What is Renewable Energy?

Alternative Energy is an “umbrella” term that refers to any source of usable energy intended to replace fuel sources without the undesired consequences of the replaced fuels.

The word “alternative” is almost misrepresentative, the word conjures up the idea of something more environmental friendly and possibly even less expensive to use than the fuel source currently in place, like a electric utility company. Usually, “alternative” simply means there is another choice or possibility, such as Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass, Geothermal. Most of these fuel sources are for industrial or large scale applications which are cost effective enough to offset the initial set up to be financially practical, or attain parity.

Does alternative energy automatically mean it is renewable energy? No! Renewable energy is from natural sources, such as the sun, water, or wind. These resources are available everywhere and are perfect for isolated, remote areas, even on a large scale.

Generac Power Systems newest innovation is the EcoGen standby generator. EcoGen was designed and manufactured specifically to work with renewable energy applications and is capable of tying into an inverter and battery storage system. Propane fueled the EcoGen provides the cleanest running, low emission standby power for your off grid alternative energy application.

Quick Facts about Solar Energy

* “Solar” is the Latin word for “sun.”

* The sun provides energy in two forms – light and heat. The sun can be used to heat water in our homes and businesses. It can also produce electricity. Energy produced by the sun is called solar power.

* Since the beginning of mankind we have used the energy of the sun to dry clothes and food, but it wasn't until 1954 that scientists in the United States worked out a way to use the sun to create electricity.

* Sunlight that shines on the Earth in just one hour could meet world energy demand for an entire year!

* Various types of solar thermal devices are now available in the country these includes solar water heaters, solar cookers, solar stills, solar dryers etc. apart from these devices, solar energy is also being used particularly in the colder areas of the country for space heating by including solar passive features in the buildings; and for agriculture by utilizing solar greenhouses.

No noise, no moving parts to wear out, clean, easy to install, easy to add-on to, PhotoVoltaic (PV) panels are a great renewable energy resource.

The term photovoltaic derives from the combination of 2 words: “photo” from the Greek phos – light, and “volt” - electricity, which literally means “electricity of light”.

Solar energy is an alternative source of electricity in that the radiation emitted by the sun may be transformed directly into electricity by using photovoltaic modules that take advantage of the properties of semiconductor materials such as silicon, which is also the most abundant element on earth, second only to oxygen.

Roof Top Solar Electric System

Large Arrays of Industrial Solar Panels (photovoltaic collectors), are most often mounted on large industrial rooftops that would normally be unused space. Commercial rooftops are rarely shaded and the degradation of roofing materials is reduced by less exposure to UV rays from the sun. Large arrays of Industrial Solar Panels create valuable electricity.

SOLAR POWER

With increasing strain being placed on non-renewable resources, many individuals and businesses on a global scale are turning to solar power as a way of reducing costs and helping the environment.

The Evalon®-Solar is the world’s first solar powered totally flexible roofing membrane combining the benefits of a roof lining with the addition of environmentally friendly solar photovoltaic (PV) generated power. It requires no glass or heavy frames, unlike traditional solar cells, which make it ideal for fitting to almost any shape roof. It is of course totally weather resistant, extremely lightweight and produces an output up to 20% higher* than similarly rated crystalline solar cells.
